SSSCU Announces 2020 Scholarship Recipients

LAS VEGAS - (June 22, 2020) — Silver State Schools Credit Union (SSSCU) Board of Directors announced its nine 2020 scholarship recipients. Each winner is a Southern Nevada high school senior and will receive a $2,000 scholarship renewable for up to four years, for a total of up to $8,000, to use towards higher education. 

Selected by the Board of Directors, each student demonstrated excellence in academics, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Many applications were submitted for the scholarships. The scholarships are named after past and current Board Members as well as the Credit Union’s charitable foundation, Silver State Schools CU People Over Profit (POP) Foundation. The winning students will be recognized at the SSSCU Virtual Annual Meeting Of Members on Saturday, June 27th at 10 a.m. Members interested in attending can register for the meeting by visiting

“After receiving all of the applications for the scholarship this year and having the chance to learn about the amazing work these students have accomplished, I can’t wait to see how they will change the world. Now, more than ever before, we need young people who are committed to their studies, schools, and communities to spark change in the face of adversity and these students will do just that,” stated Teresa Yeoman, SSSCU Board Chairperson. “We are excited to see what this group of students will accomplish, and we wish them the best as they continue their education.” 

The 2020 winners are:

●    Nicola Lai, winner of the Arlene Parkinson Scholarship
●    Stacey Lai, winner of the Bart Roche Scholarship
●    Jack Foster, winner of the Leonard Petoske Scholarship
●    Aqeelah Muhammad, winner of the William Moore Scholarship
●    Zachary Billot, winner of the Terry Mannion Scholarship
●    Caleb Nalley, winner of the Harold McKay Scholarship
●    Robby Lapak, winner of the Andrew Hunter Scholarship
●    Alexzandrea Meyer, winner of the Joyce Woodhouse Scholarship
●    Savannah Escalante, winner of the SSSCU POP Foundation Scholarship
