SSSCU Continues as a Top Fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk

December 05, 2018

Silver State Schools Credit Union (SSSCU) advanced its legacy as a top fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) annual Light the Night walk held at the College of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas, Charleston Campus. The Credit Union, based in Las Vegas, raised over $33,000, placing third for the city’s corporate teams. SSSCU has consistently placed in the top three of Las Vegas-are corporate fundraisers for the past five years. The money raised will fund research of cancer treatments and patient advocacy by LLS.

“For a team of 100 employees going up against teams with hundreds, if not thousands, of people, third place is truly awe-inspiring. I believe that our team is able to rise up and compete because the motivation is personal for us,” remarked Maria Sullivan, District Branch Manager and Light the Night Co-Captain. “Knowing that all of our hard work over the last year will help to improve, possibly even save someone’s life that has been afflicted with cancer, is the real reward for Team SSSCU.”

Fundraising at SSSCU is personal for many employees. Longtime employee and former Light the Night team leader, Jenny Lynn Chester lost her battle with Leukemia and former Director of Marketing, Barbara King is a cancer survivor. The team walks in honor of both women. Team SSSCU raises funds for the walk with donations from members, employees, and partners, through charity coffee runs, doughnut fundraisers, raffles, and more.
